Problem Type: Gearbox damage and hop-up failure
Customer-Reported Problem
The rifle still made a firing sound, but the BBs had no effective range. BBs simply rolled out of the barrel instead of shooting straight.
What We Found
This was not one single issue. We found two separate problems:
- The piston teeth were stripped.
- The original basic hop-up was no longer adjusting correctly.
This was an older AEG with a basic hop-up. This type of hop-up has limited adjustment and lacks the precision of a rotary hop-up.

The rifle had both gearbox damage and a hop-up problem. Replacing only one part would not have fixed all of the symptoms. The damaged piston needed to be replaced. We also recommended upgrading the original hop-up to a rotary hop-up. It did not need to be metal; a good plastic rotary hop-up would provide better adjustment and more consistent performance than the basic unit.

This was an older AEG, but both problems involved replaceable parts. Whether the repair was worth doing depended on the overall condition of the rifle, the repair cost, and whether the owner wanted to keep using this older platform.

- The gun cycles, but the BB has little or no range.
- BBs roll out of the barrel.
- The hop-up adjustment has little or no effect.
- The gearbox does not complete a normal cycle.
