Lancer Tactical M4 AEG Velocity Dropped to 300FPS

Lancer Tactical LT-14CB-G2-ME AEG Velocity Dropped to 300 FPS

Airsoft Repair Case: restoring lost FPS on a Lancer Tactical LT-14CB-G2-ME AEG after the muzzle velocity dropped to around 300FPS.

Service Date: December 17, 2023
Brand: Lancer Tactical
Model: LT-14CB-G2-ME AEG
Problem: Velocity dropped to around 300FPS

Customer-Reported Problem

The rifle had lost a noticeable amount of power and was shooting at around 300FPS. For a gun that normally shoots closer to the 380–400FPS range with stock parts, this was a significant drop.

What We Found

When an AEG loses this much velocity, the spring is not always the only problem. A weak spring can lower FPS, but a large drop can also come from poor air compression inside the gearbox. The cylinder, cylinder head, piston head, air nozzle, and hop-up area all need to seal well enough to push the same amount of air behind each BB. If air leaks inside the system, the gun can lose power even when the spring is still fairly strong.

Airarm Sports Assessment

If an AEG that normally shoots around 380–400 FPS suddenly drops close to 300 FPS, do not assume that replacing the spring alone will fix it. The compression system should be checked at the same time.

Repair and Upgrade Work Completed

  • M120 spring installed to restore the power level.
  • Metal spring guide with bearings installed for better support and smoother spring movement.
  • Cylinder replaced as part of the compression repair.
  • Cylinder head replaced to improve the air seal.
  • Piston head replaced to improve compression inside the cylinder.

Why We Did More Than Replace the Spring

Replacing only the spring can increase FPS, but it does not fix an air leak. If the compression parts are not sealing correctly, a stronger spring may still give inconsistent power and put extra stress on the gearbox.

In this repair, the goal was to restore both spring power and the air seal. Compatible and upgraded cylinder, cylinder head, and piston head helped correct the compression issue instead of relying on spring strength alone.

Why Add a Metal Spring Guide with Bearings?

The metal spring guide is stronger than a basic plastic guide. The  bearings also allow the spring to rotate more freely as it compresses and releases. It is a useful supporting upgrade when installing a stronger spring because it adds durability to the spring system without changing how the gun operates.

Final Result

The repair addressed both possible causes of the velocity loss: spring strength and poor compression. Instead of using a stronger spring to hide an air-seal problem, the compression parts were replaced at the same time.

This type of repair is especially important when the FPS drop is large. A proper diagnosis helps avoid replacing only one part while leaving the real source of the power loss unresolved.

Specna Arms EDGE 2.0 E25 AEG Misfeeding and Dust Cover Repair

Specna Arms EDGE 2.0 E25 AEG Misfeeding and Dust Cover Repair

Airsoft Repair Case: fixing occasional BB misfeeding and a dust cover that would not open on a Specna Arms EDGE 2.0 E25 AEG.

Service Date: November 25, 2023
Brand: Specna Arms
Model: EDGE 2.0 E25 AEG
Problem: Occasional misfeeding and dust cover would not open

Customer-Reported Problem

The customer reported two problems. The rifle would misfeed from time to time, and the dust cover could not be opened normally.

What We Found

During testing, the BB feeding was inconsistent. However, there was no visible damage to the hop-up unit, bucking, air nozzle, or tappet plate. Because none of the main feeding parts were broken, the problem was not a simple case of replacing a damaged component. We found that the hop-up assembly was not sitting as firmly and consistently as it should.

How We Fixed the Misfeeding

We reassembled the hop-up unit and bucking, then added a small shim to help hold the hop-up chamber more securely in position. This rifle comes with a plastic hop-up chamber. A plastic hop-up can work well, but small amounts of movement or fit variation can sometimes affect how consistently the magazine, hop-up chamber, and air nozzle line up. The shim helped remove that extra movement and kept the hop-up chamber in a more stable position. With the chamber held more firmly, the BBs could feed more consistently into the hop-up.

Airarm Sports Assessment

Not every feeding problem is caused by a broken hop-up, bucking, nozzle, or tappet plate. Sometimes the parts are still good, but the alignment between them is slightly off. A small amount of movement can be enough to cause occasional misfeeds.

Dust Cover Repair

The dust cover problem had a separate cause. We found that the charging handle spring was deformed and had lost tension. Because the spring could no longer pull the charging handle properly, the dust cover mechanism would not open normally. We replaced the charging handle spring and restored the dust cover operation. After the repair, the cover could be opened normally again.

Why This Repair Did Not Need Major Parts Replacement

The hop-up, bucking, air nozzle, and tappet plate did not show visible damage, so replacing all of those parts would have been unnecessary. The better repair was to correct the hop-up position, stabilize the assembly, and replace only the failed charging handle spring.

This is a good example of why an airsoft gun should be diagnosed before parts are replaced. An occasional feeding problem can come from alignment and fit, not only from a broken part.

Final Result

After the hop-up was reassembled and stabilized with the shim, BB feeding became more consistent. Replacing the charging handle spring also restored normal dust cover operation.

The rifle did not require a major gearbox repair. The problem was corrected by improving hop-up alignment and replacing the failed spring.

G&G SRL M-LOK AEG Stopped Working After Perun V2 Hybrid Upgrade

G&G SRL M-LOK AEG Stopped Working After Perun V2 Hybrid Upgrade

Airsoft Repair Case: a G&G SRL M-LOK with a Perun V2 Hybrid suddenly stopped working during a game.

Service Date: 10/18/2023
Brand: G&G
Model: SRL M-LOK AEG
Previous Upgrade: Perun V2 Hybrid installed about one year earlier
Problem: The gun stopped working during a game

Customer’s Problem

The customer said the gun had been working normally, but it suddenly stopped in the middle of a game. The rifle had been upgraded with a Perun V2 Hybrid about one year earlier.

What We Found

Testing showed that the original 25KRPM motor had failed. Because the motor was dead, it could no longer turn the gears and cycle the gearbox.

The Perun V2 Hybrid did not directly cause the motor to fail. However, features such as pre-cocking, active braking, a sensitive trigger, and fast semi-auto shooting can make the motor start and stop more often and work harder. A stronger battery, heavy spring, poor shimming, incorrect motor height, or worn gears can add even more load. All of these factors can create extra heat and shorten the life of a standard brushed motor.

Why the Motor Wore Out Faster

A regular motor uses carbon brushes that rub against the commutator every time the motor runs. Fast semi-auto shooting creates many quick start-and-stop cycles, which increases heat and brush wear.

Pre-cocking also keeps the spring partly compressed after each shot. This gives faster trigger response, but the motor must pull the piston back under load.

Active braking stops the motor quickly after each cycle. It helps control overspin, but a strong braking setting can create more heat and wear inside a brushed motor.

Repair Completed

We replaced the failed motor and tested the rifle. The gun returned to normal operation.

Airarm Sports Assessment

A good brushed motor can work with a Perun V2 Hybrid. However, for a gun that uses pre-cocking, active braking, fast semi-auto fire, or a heavier gearbox setup, a compatible brushless motor may be a better long-term choice.

Why a Brushless Motor May Be Better

  • No carbon brushes:
There are no brushes rubbing inside the motor and wearing out over time.
  • Less heat:
A brushless motor usually runs cooler and wastes less energy.
  • Better response:
It can start quickly and pull the gearbox more smoothly under load.
  • Longer service life:
With fewer wear parts, it can last longer in a heavily used AEG.

The Gearbox Must Be Checked Too

A new motor can have a different speed, torque level, and pinion gear from the original motor. After the motor is changed, the motor height and gear contact must be checked.

The gearbox may also need to be reshimmed so the gears line up correctly and run smoothly. Poor gear contact can create noise, heat, and extra stress on the new motor.

The gears do not always need to be replaced. Replacement depends on their condition and the motor being installed. If the gun will be used heavily, steel-tooth gears are recommended for better durability.

Final Recommendation

The motor, Perun settings, battery, spring, gears, and shimming all work together. Replacing only the motor without checking the rest of the gearbox can cause the same problem again.

For normal use, a good brushed motor may still be enough. For heavy use, fast semi-auto shooting, or a stronger build, a properly matched brushless motor and steel-tooth gears may provide better reliability.

A&K SR25 AEG DMR Upgrade for Better Range and Accuracy

A&K SR25 AEG DMR Upgrade for Better Range and Accuracy

Airsoft Upgrade Case: improving effective range, accuracy, consistency, and overall DMR performance on a SR25 AEG.

Service Date: October 28, 2023
Brand: A&K
Model: SR25 AEG
Service Type: DMR Upgrade

Customer’s Upgrade Goals

The customer wanted to increase the rifle’s effective range, improve accuracy, produce straighter and more consistent BB flight, and achieve tighter groupings. The goal was to turn the A&K SR25 into a more capable DMR-style AEG for long-distance shooting.

Airarm Sports Assessment

To improve the rifle’s long-range performance, the upgrade needed to focus on four main areas:

  • More consistent air seal and compression
  • A longer inner barrel suited to the DMR setup
  • A properly matched hop-up, bucking, and barrel setup
  • Improved gearbox durability and gear alignment

Simply installing a longer barrel would not have been enough. The air-seal system, hop-up, bucking, barrel, piston assembly, cylinder assembly, and gearbox setup all needed to work together as a complete system.

Upgrade Work Completed

  • Flat-hop installation to provide more consistent backspin, straighter BB flight, and tighter groupings at longer distances.
  • CNC rotary hop-up unit installed for easier and more precise hop-up adjustment.
  • 510 mm inner barrel installed for the longer DMR-style setup.
  • Full steel-tooth piston installed to improve durability under the upgraded gearbox setup.
  • Double O-ring piston head installed to improve the air seal and provide more consistent air output.
  • Gearbox cleaned and reshimmed to improve gear alignment, smoothness, and durability.
Airarm Sports Upgrade Summary

This upgrade was designed as a complete system rather than a single-part upgrade. The longer barrel, flat-hop, rotary hop-up, improved air-seal parts, and gearbox service all supported the same goal: better effective range, straighter BB flight, tighter groupings, and more consistent performance.

Why These Upgrades Were Recommended

A DMR-style AEG needs more than higher FPS. Longer effective range and tighter groupings require a well-sealed air system and a properly matched hop-up, bucking, barrel, and cylinder setup. Inconsistent air output or inconsistent contact with the BB can cause shots to spread, curve, or vary in distance at longer ranges.

Was the Upgrade Worth Doing?

The A&K SR25 is a suitable platform for a DMR-style build because of its longer body and barrel setup. For a customer who already owned the rifle and wanted better long-range performance, upgrading the existing platform was more cost-effective than buying another AEG.

King Arms CAA M4 AEG Has No Range and BBs Roll Out

King Arms CAA M4 AEG Has No Range and BBs Roll Out

Airsoft Repair Case: stripped piston teeth and a worn basic hop-up unit.

Repair Date: October 23, 2023
Platform: King Arms CAA M4 AEG
Problem Type: Gearbox damage and hopup failure

Customer-Reported Problem

The rifle still made a firing sound, but the BBs had no effective range. BBs simply rolled out of the barrel instead of shooting straight.

What We Found

This was not one single issue. We found two separate problems:

  • The piston teeth were stripped.
  • The original basic hop-up was no longer adjusting correctly.

This was an older AEG with a basic hop-up. This type of hop-up has limited adjustment and lacks the precision of a rotary hop-up.

Recommended Repair

Airarm Sports Repair Assessment

The rifle had both gearbox damage and a hop-up problem. Replacing only one part would not have fixed all of the symptoms. The damaged piston needed to be replaced. We also recommended upgrading the original hop-up to a rotary hop-up. It did not need to be metal; a good plastic rotary hop-up would provide better adjustment and more consistent performance than the basic unit.

Was This Rifle Worth Repairing?

This was an older AEG, but both problems involved replaceable parts. Whether the repair was worth doing depended on the overall condition of the rifle, the repair cost, and whether the owner wanted to keep using this older platform.

Common Signs of a Similar Problem

  • The gun cycles, but the BB has little or no range.
  • BBs roll out of the barrel.
  • The hop-up adjustment has little or no effect.
  • The gearbox does not complete a normal cycle.
